About Hong Leong Foundation
The Hong Leong Group has always held to the belief that a business cannot detach itself from its social responsibilities, and has always made the economic development of Malaysians a business priority. To that end, the Hong Leong Foundation was created in 1992 to empower the most disadvantaged Malaysians to rise from poverty through sustainable education and community development programmes. The Foundation’s programmes are funded by contributions from the Group’s various businesses.
Each year, the Hong Leong Foundation gives out millions of ringgit in the form of scholarship grants to bright but underprivileged Malaysian students with the opportunity to pursue higher education at reputable institutions of higher learning. The programme also provides scholarships for people living with disabilities and financial assistance for vocational training. In recent years, the Foundation has expanded its scope to include support for internships, mentorships, and afterschool programmes.
Through its community development programme, the Foundation makes substantial donations to help improve the lives of orphans, abused children, battered women, the elderly, the sick, those with special needs, and victims of natural disasters. Most recently, the Foundation has been partnering with non-profit organisations to help develop and grow these organisations towards sustainability and good governance.
